CORE ESTHETICS CURRICULUM

Chapters Covered in Core Esthetics Courses:

Chapter 1: Skin Care History and Career Opportunities. Students will learn about the different career options available to estheticians. Also covered are the practices of earlier cultures in skincare and cosmetics.

Chapter 2: Your Professional Image. Students will learn personal hygiene, physical presentation and professional conduct.

Chapter 3: Sanitation and Disinfection. Covers classifications of bacteria, the difference between sterilization, disinfection and sanitation.

Chapter 4: Anatomy and Physiology. Students will learn the importance of anatomy and physiology in the cosmetology profession.

Chapter 5: Chemistry for Estheticians. This chapter covers chemistry in the areas of organic and inorganic chemistry, physical properties, and chemical properties as applied to cosmetics.

Chapter 6: Cosmetic Chemistry. Covers most common cosmetic ingredients and their functions and the FDA regulations regarding cosmetic claims and product safety.

Chapter 7: Basics of Electricity. Students will learn the different types of electric currents and the four main modalities used in cosmetology and light therapy.

Chapter 8: Physiology and Histology of the Skin. Covers the functions of the skin, structure and layers of skin, anatomy of the skin, and how proper nutrients and vitamins benefit the skin.

Chapter 9: Skin Disorders and Diseases. Students will be able to identify skin conditions, different skin lesions and disorders.

Chapter 10: Skin Analysis. Covers how to identify skin types, skin conditions and how to perform skin analysis.

Chapter 11:  Product Selection and Ingredients. How to identify basic products used in facials, list the main categories of professional skin care, and understand the benefits of many ingredients.

Chapter 12: The Treatment Room. Covers equipment and supplies that are needed in the facial room and how to set up a treatment room.

Chapter 13: Massage. Covers the different types of massage and explains their benefits.

Chapter 14: Basic Facials and Treatments. Students learn the benefits and steps involved in a facial treatment. 

Chapter 15: Machines. Covers electrotherapy, identifies machines used in skin care treatments, and explains the function and benefits of each machine.

Chapter 16: Hair Removal. Covers the morphology of hair, growth stages and temporary and permanent hair removal.

Chapter 17: Advanced Esthetics Topics. Covers advancements in ingredients such as AHAs and aromatherapy.

Chapter 18: The World of Makeup. Describes the different types of cosmetics, color therapy, and application of artificial lashes.

Chapter 19: The Salon/Spa Business. Students will learn the qualities necessary to be successful in a service profession.

Chapter 20: Selling Products and Services. Covers the basic principles of selling products and services in the salon, how to build a clientele and how to close a sale.

Chapter 21: Career Planning. Students learn qualities that are needed to be successful in a service profession, how to write a resume, and the importance of continuing your education.
